I just read the new book by Mary Eberstadt called The Loser Letters: A Comic Tale of Life, Death, and Atheism (Ignatius Press, 2010). It is witty, entertaining and edifying.
A recent convert to atheism writes a series of letters to the big, important atheist guys (Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris and co.) in which she offers unsolicited advice on how to avoid turning off the younger generation on atheism. In so doing she highlights some of the weaknesses of the the atheist apologetic strategy currently being employed.
The book is short, enjoyable and displays a razor sharp mind slicing through the new atheist bluster with ease. And it has a terrific twist of an ending, which I won't spoil for you.
Buy it, read it, give it. The perfect gift for 2010 for teens and up.
I'm not quite sure how much more of this kind of mocking and teasing Richard Dawkins will be able to stand - but I'm open to finding out.
